When to Order a Custom Wedding Suit: A Groom's Timeline for Miami Weddings

Order your custom wedding suit about three months before the wedding. That leaves room for fabric delays, two fittings for a made-to-measure suit or tuxedo, and time for your groomsmen to get fitted on their own schedule. At Damiani in Miami, custom wedding suits and tuxedos start at $1,200, and we dress the whole party, from the groom to the ring bearer.

Three Months Out: The Consultation

Bring the invitation, or at least the date, venue and dress code. We'll choose the cut and cloth together, design the details, take your measurements and plan every look for the weekend. Your suit is then made in about 4–6 weeks.

Our made-to-measure suits from $1,200 are made by Atelier Munro. Munro has the fastest turnaround we work with and buys directly from the mills, which is how the price stays that low for the quality. If you'd like Zegna, its made-to-measure starts at $5,200. Either way, you can try on a sample from every house before you order, so you know what you're getting.

The lining, the stitching, a monogram and any wedding-day detail are included in the price. The most common choice is the bride's and groom's names inside the jacket, with the wedding date beneath.

Plan the Whole Weekend, Not Just the Day

Grooms remember the wedding day and forget everything around it: the rehearsal dinner the night before, the engagement shoot, the brunch the morning after. We plan all of them at the same consultation, so every look works together and nothing is bought in a rush.

“Weddings these days are an entire weekend long. I promise you, your fiancée has planned out all her outfits, so the groom should too.”

Daniella, Damiani

The engagement shoot

Something that photographs well and still looks like you, often a sport coat or an unstructured suit.

The rehearsal dinner

A lighter suit or sport coat, one step less formal than the wedding.

The wedding day

Your made-to-measure suit or tuxedo, plus a second shirt. We make custom shirts too.

The day after

Relaxed and easy, for the brunch or the flight home.

Six to Eight Weeks Out: The Groomsmen

The groom usually organizes the first visit with all the men. From there, we handle each groomsman's fitting and alterations one by one. Most choose suits or tuxedos from our in-stock Italian collections (see our wedding suits in Miami) and need one fitting; some go made-to-measure. We sell, we don't rent, so every groomsman keeps a suit he'll wear again.

“Every groomsman is just as important as the groom.”

Daniella, Damiani

We dress the full party: fathers, ring bearers and everyone in between, with ties, bow ties, pocket squares, shoes and cufflinks matched to the groom.

Groomsmen out of town? We can fit them by video call and send fabric samples, turn alterations around in a couple of hours once they're in Miami, or ship the suit for minor alterations near home.

Two to Three Weeks Out: Final Fittings

Your suit arrives, and you try it on for the first time. Our in-house tailors adjust the details, and a second fitting confirms the final fit. The groomsmen have their last fittings in the same window.

Wedding Week: Pick Up or Delivery

Everything that leaves Damiani is steamed and ready to wear, with shirts, ties and accessories set for the day. Pick up a few days early, not the morning of. If we ship your suit, it may need a light steam after the trip.

We can also deliver to the venue. We've often set up a whole room for the wedding party, with every look ready on a rolling rack.

The Second Shirt

It's the one thing grooms forget.

“When the bride changes her outfit, that's the perfect time for the groom to change into his second shirt. It keeps him fresh and clean for all the photos.”

Suit or Tuxedo for the Groom?

Follow the dress code on the invitation. For a cocktail or daytime wedding, a made-to-measure suit in navy, grey or a lighter tone is the better choice. For black tie, the groom wears a tuxedo.

Many of our grooms now choose a white dinner jacket. It looks beautiful when the bride and groom are the only ones in white. A popular plan is a full tuxedo plus a white dinner jacket: the trousers work with both, so you get two jackets, a second look for the evening and a tuxedo to wear again. Our black-tie guide covers every tuxedo detail.

Dressing for the Venue and the Heat

A Miami wedding can mean sand, grass or a ballroom, and the cloth should change with it.

A Damiani Groom: Hunter Green in La Herradura

When Tyler married Amanda in La Herradura, Spain, in 2022, he wore a deep hunter green tuxedo made to measure by Atelier Munro in Drago cloth, with patent leather loafers. His groomsmen wore tuxedos from our ready-to-wear collection. The wedding was featured in Vogue España, and its video went viral on TikTok.

“I can’t say enough good things about Damiani. They helped me create a custom suit for my wedding, and I wouldn’t trust anyone else with something so important.”

What a Custom Wedding Suit Costs

At Damiani, custom wedding suits and tuxedos start at $1,200 in Italian fabric, with tailoring and personal details always included. The price rises with the fabric, the construction and the maker: finer cloth with full-canvas construction runs about $1,795 to $2,000, and Zegna and Cesare Attolini made-to-measure start at $5,200 and $10,000.

The difference between a $500 suit and a $5,000 suit is the cloth, the construction and the handwork. Read what a custom suit costs for the full breakdown.

After the Wedding

A made-to-measure suit is meant to be worn again. If your weight changes after the wedding, bring it back and our tailors will re-alter it to fit.

Wedding Suit FAQs

How far in advance should you get a tuxedo or suit for a wedding?

About three months before the wedding. That covers 4–6 weeks of production, two fittings and any fabric delays, and gives the groomsmen time to get fitted.

What if the wedding is less than three months away?

Come in anyway. Rush orders take 2–3 weeks on select fabrics and makes, and our in-house tailors handle last-minute changes.

How much does a wedding suit typically cost?

At Damiani, custom wedding suits and tuxedos start at $1,200 with tailoring and personalization included. Finer cloth and full-canvas construction run about $1,795–$2,000.

Can I personalize my wedding suit?

Yes. Lining, stitching, monograms and wedding-day details are included in the price. Most grooms choose the couple's names with the wedding date beneath.

Does the groom usually wear a tux?

For a black-tie or evening wedding, yes. For a cocktail, beach or daytime wedding, a made-to-measure suit is usually the better choice.

What is the best wedding tuxedo for the groom?

One made to his measurements, in a cloth suited to the venue. In Miami, a lightweight wool tuxedo or a white dinner jacket works best for most black-tie weddings.
