Made to Measure and Bespoke Tailoring

How Does Made-to-Measure Tailoring Work?

A made-to-measure suit is created specifically for the individual wearer, beginning with a personal consultation and ending with a professionally fitted and finished garment. At Damiani Miami, the process combines expert measurements, premium fabrics, personalized design choices, and professional tailoring to create a suit that reflects both your proportions and personal style.

1. Style Consultation

The process begins with a one-on-one consultation with a personal stylist. We discuss how the suit will be worn, whether for business, weddings, formal events, travel, or everyday professional wear. We also discuss your preferred fit, personal style, and expectations for the finished garment.

Your specialist will evaluate your proportions, posture, and fit preferences to help determine the most appropriate silhouette and construction for you.

2. Fabric Selection

Once we understand your needs and preferences, your stylist will guide you through the fabric selection process. The right fabric depends on several factors, including the occasion, climate, season, frequency of wear, and desired look and feel.

Damiani offers an extensive selection of luxury fabrics from renowned Italian and European mills, including Loro Piana, Ermenegildo Zegna, Drago, Vitale Barberis Canonico, and Dormeuil and more.

Your stylist will help you compare fabric composition, weight, texture, color, pattern, and performance to select a cloth that complements your personal style and suits how the garment will be worn.

3. Design Selection

After selecting the fabric, you will personalize the design and finishing details of your garment. Your Damiani specialist will guide you through the available options while considering your proportions, personal style, and the intended use of the suit.

Depending on the garment, design options may include:

  • Lapel style and width
  • Single-breasted or double-breasted construction
  • Buttons & button configuration
  • Pocket styles
  • Linings
  • Finishing details
  • Monograms and other personalized details

Each selection is considered as part of the complete garment, allowing the finished suit to reflect your individual style while maintaining proper proportion and balance.

4. Professional Measurements & Fit Assessment

Detailed measurements are taken to establish the proportions of the
garment. Rather than relying only on standard sizing, the fitting process also
considers how clothing sits on your individual frame.

Measurements and observations may include the chest, waist, shoulders,
sleeve length, jacket length, trouser waist and seat, inseam, rise, and other
relevant dimensions. Posture, shoulder balance, and other fit characteristics
may also be noted.

These measurements and fit adjustments are then used to create the
specifications for your made-to-measure garment.

5. Your Garment Is Made

Typical production time: approximately 5–8 weeks

Once the measurements, fabric, and design specifications are finalized,
the order is submitted for production. The garment is made according to the
selected model and customized using the measurements and adjustments
established during your fitting.

Production times vary depending on the brand, fabric availability,
garment, season, and level of customization.

2-3 week rush options are available for certain fabrics.

6. Final Fitting

When your garment arrives at Damiani Miami, you return for a fitting.

Our stylist evaluate important areas such as the shoulders, chest,
jacket length, sleeves, trouser waist, seat, rise, and hem. We also look at the
garment as a whole to make sure its proportions and overall appearance are
correct.

Although a made-to-measure garment is produced according to your
measurements, minor alterations may still be recommended after the garment
arrives.

7. In-House Tailoring & Finishing

Typical time: a few days

When adjustments are needed, Damiani's in-house tailoring team completes
the final alterations and finishing. This allows us to refine the garment after
seeing it on the client rather than considering the initial measurements the
end of the fitting process.

For time-sensitive situations, rush and same-day alterations may be
available.

8. Delivery

Once the tailoring is complete, the garment receives a final fit check.

Your measurements and fit preferences are saved and can also serve as a reference for futuremade-to-measure orders, making subsequent purchases more streamlined.
