Hatmakers Since 1850
Tesi has made hats near Florence since around 1850, and Damiani Miami carries them. The Tesi family began by producing and trading straw braids and straw hats, made with fine Italian and Eastern straws.
The manufactory sits in Campi Bisenzio, beside Signa, long known as the hat capital at the gates of Florence, where Signa straw was once famous. In the early 20th century the family added Panama hats in toquilla straw, which carried the name to Central and North America.
Today the company is led by the sixth generation, and every Tesi hat, in straw or felt, is still made by hand. The family also helped create the Museo della Paglia in Signa, which preserves the region's straw-weaving heritage.
