A Family of Shirtmakers
Mazzarelli is a third-generation shirtmaker from Puglia, and Damiani Miami carries its shirts. The family's first shirt factory opened in 1960 in Castellana Grotte, a town southeast of Bari famous for its caves.
The story starts earlier. During the Second World War, grandfather Marino, a paratrooper, sewed two shirts from his torn parachute, one for himself and one for a friend. Grandmother Maria, an expert embroiderer, and her sister Anna, skilled in cutting and sewing, went on to build the workshop.
Domenico carried the business forward with his motto, "I like what is beautiful," and today his daughters, Monica and Mariangela, lead the company. They still choose hands over machines where it matters, with seams at nine stitches per centimeter.
